As clean, refreshing, and spicy a wine as you can find from anywhere. This Loir (no 'e') valley charmer is made entirely from the local favorite Pineau d'Aunis, a grape that combines the ethereal freshness of Gamay with Cabernet Franc's ability to show black pepper notes in unhinged abundance. Pascal Janvier's 2016 edition shows notes of pomegranate, hood cherry, and tart raspberry on a powerful nose and in the bright and breathy palate. The finish is a wave of jazzy acidity, demanding some sort of light, fatty fare like charcuterie, fish tacos featuring avocado, or hard cheeses.
