Telmo Rodríguez is one of Spain’s most dynamic and adventuresome
vignerons. He crafts stylish wines true to their terroirs from
Spain’s most important varietals. This is Rodriguez’s Monastrell
(or Mourvèdre) from vines grown on the limestone terraces near the
Mediterranean in southeastern Spain. The 2010 Al Muvedre casts a
translucent plum-ruby color from the glass, followed by herb-tinged
aromas of blackberries, briar, mace and black cherries. A
suggestion of Indian incense leads the wine to its dense,
palate-staining impressions of plums, blackberries, camphor, game
and tar. Full-bodied yet firm with plentiful, fine tannins and
framing acidity, the wine finishes with suggestions of cedar, star
anise, garam masala and menthol. Spicy, herbal and totally
compelling, this is a superb expression of Spanish Monastrell and a
natural partner to all things lamb, pork, rabbit, eggplant, potato
and mushroom. Don’t miss this deliciously versatile and
mouth-filling Spanish beauty!
