Casa de Mouraz’s 2018 Branco is a field blend of approximately fifteen old-vine, autochthonous Portuguese white varieties grown on granite soils and fermented together in stainless steel. The wine radiates a luminous lemon-gold color and highly aromatic expressions of lime zest, chamomile, gardenia blossoms, and white tea. Brisk and citric on the palate, suggestions of lemon juice, quince, and grapefruit mesh with exotic expressions of greengage plums, pineapple, and passionfruit. The wine finishes crisp and complex with myriad floral and fruit expressions lifted by precise acidity and a lovely, sappy palate texture. A note of lemongrass resonates with smoky granitic minerals as the wine lingers on the palate. We recommend enjoying this unique and compelling Portuguese white blend with halibut en papillote, trout amandine, vegetable and seafood tapas, and white lasagnas.
