Rhone Valley, France
Domaine de la Guicharde’s biodynamic Cotes du Rhone rouge is pure, classic, and truly one of the great values in authentic Cotes du Rhone. A classic blend of Grenache (70%) and Syrah, co-fermented on indigenous yeasts, the wine casts a translucent purple-ruby robe and soars with sunny Southern French aromas of Provençal cherries, herbal garrigue, cinnamon stick, and black licorice. On the palate, notes of juniper-scented garrigue, sweet tobacco, star anise, and menthol join the vibrant core of cherry and cassis-inflected Grenache fruit. Chewy old-school tannins appear on the back-palate to frame the wine’s kernel of fruit and segue it to a long garrigue-driven finish. We suggest picking up a case to enjoy now and over the next decade with grilled eggplant, lamb and beef stews, burgers, and anything scented with rosemary, garlic or anchovies.
