The 2016 Lagrein Riserva is inward and deep, grumbling up from the glass with a bouquet of sage, dark currants and balsam herbs. Its soft textures are quickly firmed up by tart wild berries and savory spices, with brisk acids that create a push and pull of sweet and sour tension. A light coating of round tannins and a tug of zesty citrus lingers on and on. There’s so much energy and pleasure within, yet the 2016 is nowhere near ready to show all of its treasures. The potential here is unreal. What a gorgeous wine.
