Nahe, Germany
There is little doubt in our minds that 2019 will go down as the greatest German Riesling vintage in a generation. Nahe legend Harald Hexamer has beautifully captured the vintage’s rare confluence of ripe fruit, juicy acidity, and brilliant terroir definition. The Quarzit bottling – named for the quartzite deposits in the Meddersheimer Rheingräfenberg vineyard – radiates a lemon-gold color in the glass followed by a bouquet of ripe Golden Delicious apples, Comice pear flesh, and pungent flinty minerals. On the palate, the wine’s minerality turns floral, giving a sense of bee pollen floating above a fleshy core of juicy yellow apple fruit. The Nahe’s complex minerality and dazzling floral expressions reprise on the wine’s long, clean, and effortlessly pure finish. With its low alcohol and brisk acidity, Hexamer’s Quarzit will prove a lovely picnic wine and refreshing summer sipper. Pair it with lightly-dressed green salads, delicate freshwater fish preparations, fresh oyster and clams on the half-shell, sushi, sashimi, and Indian, Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese cuisines. Enjoy now and over the next decade. This is a wonderful choice to discover just how great the 2019 German vintage is!
