Campania, Italy
Located within the boundaries of Campania’s Cilento National Park, the La Capranera project is named after the breed of local black-haired goats that roam the park’s environs. An opaque black purple color, La Capranera’s Aglianico soars with fresh, juicy aromas of black plum skin, cassis, cinnamon, licorice, and menthol. Full-bodied and generous, the wine stains the palate with deep expressions of fresh blackberries, mulberries, cloves, sage, and piquant minerals. Notes of black olives, grilled herbs, and cured meat appear on the long, savory, mineral-driven finish. Crafted to express the friendlier, more approachable side of Aglianico, the wine buffers the Aglianico’s plentiful tannins with dense, chewy fruit and a lovely sumptuous texture. Pair this delicious and affordable southern Italian Aglianico now and over the coming three years with grilled Portobello mushrooms, salumi, pastas with sun-dried tomatoes and pine nuts, or marinated eggplant preparations.
