Montagny, Cote Chalonnaise, Burgundy, France
This is the authentic, soil-driven white Burgundy buy of the season! The commune of Montagny – the southernmost appellation in Burgundy’s Côte Chalonnaise – is famous for wines of richness, focus, ample texture, and mineral-driven Chardonnay fruit. Leave it to Drouhin in the magnificent 2019 vintage to bring all of Montagny’s ampleness and chalky, Burgundian limestone soil signature to our tables at a most affordable tariff. A rich lemon-gold hue in the glass, Drouhin’s 2019 Montagny expresses gorgeous aromas of apple blossoms, lemon oil, hazelnut, and dusty limestone minerals. Brisk and intense in the mouth, the wine shows a laser beam of electric lemon, yellow apple, and Mirabelle plum fruit followed by notes of toasted hazelnuts, buttery brioche, and nectarine flesh. Long, generous, and exquisitely balanced, we suggest pairing the wine with halibut and white-fleshed fish dishes, poultry, and light pork preparations. Drink now and over the next five years.
