We think it's about time Galicia's Sil River is accorded the same level of respect as Portugal's Douro, Germany's Mosel, and Austria's Danube as a spectacularly beautiful river famous for its wine. Just like those other famous rivers, the banks of the Sil are devilishly steep, but dedicated vignerons have carved out terraces over the centuries to produce brilliantly complex wines from a varied set of native grapes; Godello, Treixadura, Dona Blanca, and Albarino for white, and the red Mencia, Espadeiro, and Caino. Whatever the blend, it's time to get excited when you see Riberia Sacra, Ribeiro, or Valdeorras on a bottle.
