Timothy Malone moved to Oregon in 2006 and found work apprenticing with the notable vignerons at Oregon’s Cameron Winery and J. Christopher Wines, as well as Flowers Vineyard & Winery in Sonoma. The experience he gained working with these maestros shines in his lovely, seamless Willamette Valley Pinot from the great 2019 vintage. Reflecting a pure ruby robe, Malone’s Pinot soars from the glass with scents of red currants, Bing cherry, violet petals, and black pepper. Suave with fine, well-buffered tannins, the wine layers the palate with raspberry, black cherry and currant fruit kissed by a hint of French oak. Sweet cherry and raspberry fruit linger alongside hints of sassafras, nutmeg, and fresh herbs on the long finish. A superb effort from Tim Malone, this is a delicious, complete and classically-styled Willamette Valley Pinot that will prove a hit now and over the coming five years with broiled salmon and steelhead, seared ahi, roast chicken, gratin dauphinois, and sautéed mushrooms.
